my little town

lol how little is little? lemme see ...
  • the traffic lights switch to red flashing at night ... even on the main drag
  • if u forget to turn off the basement light ... ppl will be asking u for ages what u were doing all night long
  • just about everyone is related to each other. even most of the folks who moved here from out of state lmao!
  • its not seen as a violation of patient privacy for medical staff to discuss who came in and for what
  • someone giving u directions to a place often refer to buildings by what USED to be there, and expect u to know what they're talking about
  • when u ask a question they say "ur not from around here are u"
  • women don't buy major appliances without hubby's approval (if u don't bring him in, they'll phone and check)
  • most of the ppl u know, know more about u than u think

lol what can u add to this list?

awesome reads!

dystopian lit i'll never get tired of ...
  • clockwork orange ~anthony burgess
  • we ~yevgeny zamyatin
  • dhalgren ~samuel r delaney
  • canticle for liebowitz ~walter m miller jr
  • hitchhiker's guide (the whole series!) ~douglas adams
  • handmaid's tale ~margaret atwood
  • alas babylon ~pat frank
  • on the beach ~neville shute
  • the earth abides ~george stewart
  • i am legend ~richard matheson

blockage - no, not that kind. sheesh

sometimes u can just thwap out schtuff and things're kewl. but other times, u hit the wall. the slomo thing. (slow motion)) the writers block. but how can that be? it isn't like things have to be just right. i mean, pobody's nerfect, right? but there it is.

the wall.

so okay. u struggle with it for awhile, and then? i dunno. talk with friends. watch a movie. read a book. hell, walk the dawg even.

it's still there.

huh. so u try to work around it. maybe thwap it out on notepad. scribble ideas in a notebook. index cards. post its on the wall maybe.

damn.

watching a movie didn't help cos u know what u'd do differently but then why do it at all? reading a book, u start griping about the author's choice of words, or the character development and how the plot suxxors ... but it clearly doesn't since ur still reading it ... talking with friends isn't always helpful either cos if u tell em u hit the wall, they all have miracle ways that got them around it ... and ya don't wanna hear it. notepad grrrrrrr makes u want to start whapping in all the html and then u know ur screwed cos that's not writing, that's just makin pretty. notebooks get frustrating when u see how much you've torn out or crossed out or just plain done poorly. index cards ... u know u wrote it on a card and ... well ... dawg must've ate it before u took it for a walk. post its on the wall? @#*$&_#@&$ isn't the wall what the problem is all about???

and it's still there.

*sigh*

not even games are fun when u've hit the wall.

ooooo

yes i admit it. i bought the scanner and have not added it to my clutter yet. why not? well ... ummmmmmm ... cos i don't like to add schtuff till i've had a chance to read thru all the paperwork i know i won't ever look at once i get the thing fired up lol

so it's sitting here now and i'm looking over the features. it's got TextBridge OCR which promises that i can scan a doc and convert to txt format. huh.

it promises that i can scan things like photos and send them straight to my email. huh.

it swears it replaces a copier cos i can now scan schtuff and send it directly to the printer. huh

it makes a whole lotta promises. it must be male. i think i'll call it aardvark.

i wonder how long before i get frustrated with all the crap i'll have to load before it can do what it claims it can do, and it sludges my machine and i retire it lol

... still haven't hooked it up. i'm in denial?
